The problem nobody talks about
Most business owners think their website is fine. It looks decent, it loads eventually, and it has their phone number on it. What they don't realise is that "eventually" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
Google's research is clear: 53% of mobile users abandon a site that takes longer than three seconds to load. Three seconds. That is not a high bar, and a shocking number of business websites fail it, even ones that cost serious money to build.
Speed is a conversion problem, not a technical one
When we audit a new client's site, the first thing we measure is not design or copy, but Core Web Vitals. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and Interaction to Next Paint (INP) are the three metrics Google uses to measure how a real user experiences your page.
A poor LCP score means the main content of your page takes too long to appear. The visitor sees a blank or half-loaded page and leaves before they have even read your headline. You just lost that lead, not because of your offer or your pricing, but because of a missing fetchpriority attribute on an image.
The best copywriting in the world cannot save a page that loads in six seconds.
Accessibility is the part everyone skips
After speed comes accessibility. This is where most agencies take a shortcut and most clients never notice, until it becomes a legal issue or a lost customer.
Accessibility is not a checklist you run at the end of a project. It is a set of decisions made throughout the build: semantic HTML, sufficient colour contrast, keyboard navigability, descriptive alt text, focus indicators that are actually visible. Get these right and you not only serve more people: you also get a meaningful SEO boost, because the things that help screen readers also help search crawlers.
What a fast, accessible site actually looks like
Every site we ship targets a Lighthouse score above 95 across all four categories. We design in the browser from day one so performance is a constraint we work within, not a problem we fix at the end. Images are served in modern formats with correct sizing. Fonts are loaded without blocking render. JavaScript is only loaded when it is genuinely needed.
The result is a site that feels instant. Visitors stay longer, bounce less, and convert at a higher rate. Not because we did anything clever, because we did the basics properly.
How to find out if your site has a problem
Run your URL through PageSpeed Insights. Look at your mobile score specifically. If it is below 70, you have a problem that is actively costing you business. Below 50 and you should treat it as urgent.
If you want a second opinion, book a free call with us. We will run a proper audit and tell you exactly what we find, with no sales pitch or fluff. If your site is fine, we will tell you that too.
